Emmett's first time swimming

"Hey Guys ...

Who's ready for the pool?!"

Swimming is the best!

"Please, oh please, can't we stay longer?!"

snack time

I put Emmett's tray on the floor so he could finish up his little fruit bites. When I turned around he was sitting right on the tray helping himself.

More Play time

I babysatt Addison while her mom went to the Doctor. Emmett had a lot of fun with her as usual.

More Emmett!

It has been in the 80's this week! I am happy that Emmett can wear his cute flip flops before he grows out of them. Everyone loves these shoes!

Emmett tried a Biter Bisquit today and really liked it. We are still waiting for his first tooth to pop up. He also tried cheese today and really liked it.

When Emmett is tired he is such a sweet snuggler! He makes the cutest little sounds, almost like a cat purring. We sure love him!

More fun with friends...

I babysat for a friend this morning and Emmett had a lot of fun playing with her little girl Camille. After babysitting we went over to their house for lunch where he played with Camille, Quinn, Ben and Ethan. They were all born within 6 months of each other.

We decided that Emmett has a very social personality. We are working on teaching him how to play nicely with other kids and not clobber them.:)

Charlie play date!

We drove up to Agoura Hills to hang out with Em and Charlie for a day. We hung out at their house, went to the Oaks mall and had La Salsa for lunch, stopped at Shave-it for dessert and played some more at their house. What a fun day!

"I'm so glad when daddy comes home!"

Emmett gets so excited when Paul comes home and B-lines it to the door as soon as he hears it start to open. I was especially excited this night because not only was Paul home, but he brought Wahoo's tacos with him! yum!

We have to document Emmett's crazy obsession with electronics. From the time he could control his own hands he would bang on the laptop keys. His favorite things right now are our cell phones, the TV remote, the laptop and my cameras. He shows so much determination when trying to get to these things.

Another past time of Emmett's . . . playing with our shoes. I promise he has his own toys!

Our little baby is turning into a little boy!

Heading out on a Morning Jog

I think I prefer walking with a stroller to jogging with a stroller, but the stroller is still great! Emmett is such a good boy when we go on our walks. He loves being outside!

Highlights from 2008

I am always so excited to start fresh with a new year that I forget to look back at all of the great events of the past year.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • January - April 14th basically consisted of baby showers and baby prep. Classes, shopping decorating, lots of reading, and of course miles and miles of walking, trying to get that baby out! We also visited G&G Sheets in San Diego.

  • April 15th - We welcomed a beautiful soul into the world, which was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. It was wonderful having both of our Mom's out to help.

  • May and June - We celebrated our first official mother's day and Father's day.

  • I believe Emmett went to the beach 10 times between April and September.

  • We had a fun long trip to Utah and Idaho in August. Emmett had his first plane ride and I was so nervous to make the trek alone with him, but all went well. We also celebrated our 3 year anniversary in August.

  • In September we moved across the street to our bigger and cheaper apartment which we have loved, but I don't think I will ever be able to think of this apartment and not have ants sneek into the same thought!

  • We threw our first official party in October and had a great Halloween.

  • In November we spent Thanksgiving with the Lowery's

  • and much of December was spent preparing for, enjoying and recovering from our Christmas vacation.

  • Paul has been serving as the executive secretary and I have been serving as the Coordinator of our 3 nurseries.

  • On a personal note, I picked up photography and started my Etsy shop, both of which have been huge creative adventures for me.

This year has been very low key compared to our first 2 years of marriage, but it has been the best year by far! Emmett has brought so much joy to our lives. We love being our own little family and are continually learning of ways that we can do better. We thank you for the great examples you are to us and the things that you teach us. I love spending time with my older brother's and their families because I always pick up new parenting tips and tricks. Thanks to all of you for helping make 2008 a great for us!

Some of Emmett's First's

Emmett is growing up so fast! He has been surprising us left and right lately. Here are some of the things he has started doing:

12/12/08 - Able to stand alone and balance for a short while

12/23/08 - Took first little step at his great Grandma and Grandpa Nyborg's apartment in Twin Falls, ID

1/1/09 - When reading stories to Emmett he began using his finger to point at objects on the pages.

1/1/09 - Started responding to "I'm gonna get you!" It was so cute last night when I crawled after Emmett saying, "I'm gonna get you!" He took off crawling (I love the way his little bum wiggles from side to side when he crawls.) and squeeling. He ended up falling over and giggling so hard. That was before I had even gotten to him! He brings us so much joy!

1/2/09 - Waves with his fingers (the way he uses his fingers reminds me of an armadillo:)

He repeats "Mom" and "Mama" more and more, but I don't think he associates them with me yet.

He loves to walk around holding on to our fingers.

He has gotten really good at eating his baby cheetos. He loves finger foods and is getting more and more eager to taste our food.

He made the transition from a bottle to drinking from a sippy cup this week.
